Gary Johnson isn’t falling for it – and nor should anyone. The NYTimes and WaPo were all fooled by his nicey-nice “I love you” dance with Diane Sawyer. But in terms of real policy, Obama isn’t doing ANYTHING. He’s not allowing immigration or social security benefits for gay spouses, he’s not even deferring to the states if they DO approve of gay marriage. New York gay husbands and wives aren’t getting anything. Massachusetts gay husbands and wives aren’t getting anything.
“What is the President saying — that he would eat a piece of cake at a gay wedding if the state the happy couple lives in allows it ?. Where is the leadership? While I commend him for supporting the concept of gay marriage equality, I am profoundly disappointed in the President.”
There’s only one evolved candidate. Yes, it’s important to give personal, moral support to our gay friends, because they are our brothers and sisters, they are citizens of the greatest democracy in the world. It’s time to start treating gay Americans and their husbands and wives like they’re citizens of the world’s greatest democracy..
“It’s not the despair. I can handle the despair. It’s the hope!”
Look, I’m not gay, but I really don’t give a shit if Adam and Steve of Madam and Eve get married. I live in NY, and you know what happened to my marriage when they made gay marriage legal? NOTHING! Zero.
Supposedly, the two major party candidates have differences, but not on this.
Obama *can’t* be for gay marriage because black folks go to church. A lot. And he needs their votes. If they stay home, Obama’s toast – particularly in southern states. So he’ll wink and wiggle for his gay and lefty voters. He’ll drop a veil here, or let Joe Biden out of his cage for a night. But in the end – no gay marriage for Obama. Remember, it’s the reason Kerry lost Ohio: working class Catholics don’t want Obama mincing about at Disco weddings either, or at least that’s what the Democratic puppet masters are thinking. How do I know? It’s the advice *I’d* give them. Even though it’s full of shit – today is almost ten years later and the American public now supports Gay Marriage by a small majority. Americans care about jobs.
Romney *can’t* be for gay marriage because — well, half of his supporters are bigoted assholes. And the other half want the first half to think they’re also bigoted assholes. I’ve never seen the party of freedom less free. It’s why I left.
So that leaves only one candidate – Gary Johnson, the Libertarian. Politicians will tell you privately why they “can’t” do something that’s right. Johnson seems to just say “let’s do it.” Another issue where Johnson makes the most sense.
h/t Jeramy Keriken for correcting my stupid mistake about Ohio.
