Ruth Johnson: Vote Killer, Romney Hack, Liar
We’ve been here, folks, a Secretary of State crosses i’s and dots a few t’s and the idea is to turn the election in favor of your guy. And Ruth Johnson of Michigan is doing it so boldly, so moronically, that she’s threatening her own office.
As you probably know, many states have what’s called a “sore loser” law to prevent candidates from running in one party, gathering support and running as an independent later. You lose the Michigan primary? You can’t be a sore loser and try to play spoiler. However, here’s where Secretary of State Ruth Johnson screwed up: Gary Johnson didn’t run in the Michigan primary. He pulled out early in the campaign season precisely so he wouldn’t be a sore loser. In fact, he even filed in Michigan to withdraw.
The bureau of elections CLAIMED they received the filing only THREE MINUTES AFTER THE DEADLINE. A) That’s probably a complete and utter lie. B) the letters and the correspondence say that Johnson has a “FILING” deadline, which is not the same as “must be received by.” They must backdate it to the time it was postmarked – NOT WHEN THEY FELT LIKE LOOKING AT IT. C) Three minutes? Oh, please. You can lie better than that.
This is the most obvious dirty trick I have ever seen in politics – particularly when you realize that the person who drafted the ballot-denial letter was none other than Michigan Romney Campaign Director Attorney General Bill Schuette.
Conflict of interest. Lies. Ballot access denied. THIS is change from hope and change?!
What Planet Is He From?
Rand Paul occasionally makes good decisions and choices – he slowed down the Patriot Act, he made some nice noises about CISPA and NDAA. But today (and a few weeks ago) he showed where his bread is buttered – right on the tattoo above his bunghole that says “Insert GOP here.” And in Rand’s own homophobic parlance – “I can’t imagine a gayer strategy.”
Rand Paul proved today that he is a willing servant of two masters – Mitt Romney and Paul Inc. What people don’t seem to understand about Ron and Rand is that they’re not actually the idealist stalwarts that most people think they are. Like Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, they flip and flop; they just do it for a smaller niche. Ron Paul gets a few nice checks from racists? He’ll say something nice about them in his newsletters so more neo-Nazis can write checks. Rand starts getting bucks from mega-churches? There go the gay people – right in front of the bus. It’s always been about money and branding.
And Ron has been raking it in as a GOP supporting actor. And Ron wants the same truckload of loony-bucks for his son. Everyone on the inside knows this: while most people think Ron’s the most honest man in politics, there will come a time very soon when his books open up. And that perception will be dashed.
Of *course* Rand is going to endorse the Fed-loving, corporatist, marijuana-killing, brown-people-hating, abort-’em-then-don’t-abort-’em Mitt Romney – because Rand’s not a libertarian anymore (apart from a few nice speeches). He’s a Republican.
Ron Paul supporters are about to be seriously annoyed. They are getting a serious number of delegates – but Paul isn’t going to be the nominee. Period. End of story. It won’t happen. The game is utterly and completely fixed – billions upon billions of dollars are set for Romney being the nominee, and most of the primary delegates went to Romney.
So what now? Ron Paul will try to get a more libertarian platform – that won’t happen. Social conservatives won’t let him when it comes to social policy, and Paul really doesn’t care that much when it comes to gay rights or abortion. He’s personally icked out by gay people. And he happens to be pro-life. Is he really going to fight for “states rights” language in the platform? Maybe, but he won’t fight hard. Will he fight for language dropping support for Israel? Yeah, probably. But he won’t get that either. When you see the amount of money and innovation and military-industrial cooperation that comes out of Israel, you know that this is going to be a no-go for the GOP or the Democratic party.
End the Fed? Not likely. Audit the Fed? Probably not. “Think about the Fed a little more critically?” Maybe. But I doubt it.
Will he get the VP slot? No. He doesn’t come with enough money or broad support in the south or west where Romney needs it.
Will he get a prime speaking spot? Yeah, probably. And maybe even one for his son. But when it comes to real, honest-to-goodness change within the Republican party, here’s what Ron Paul and his people are going to get: NOTHING. BUPKES. ZERO.
Then, his supporters will have two choices – continue sending checks to Ron, and getting some really nice NEWSLETTERS from Ron Paul Inc. Some will do this. A couple may support Romney, but I doubt many will – there’s just not much crossover between Ron Paul and George Romney’s little boy Willard Mitt.
Or, they can turn to Gary Johnson. This will give them more involvement in a movement, and that’s what this is about – young people wanting to feel a part of something. And if they’re honest with themselves about issues, then they’ll realize that Gary Johnson reflects more of what they care about than Ron Paul even does.
Audit the Fed! Not me!
Today, Ron Paul did what I always expected him to do – rule out an endorsement of the only libertarian in the race. Up until now, there were a limited number of people who are willing to give money to libertarians, and he doesn’t want to give up those people. But that won’t matter – because people will soon realize what a huckster Ron Paul really is. Like the best whore in the worst financial straits – he’ll say and do anything for a buck.
People don’t understand that Paul is even a bigger flip-flopper than one W. Mitt Romney. From the racist and loony ravings signed by his pen and published under his name (nothing to see here!), to the bizarre method of putting earmarks in legislation and then voting against it (he brings home the bacon without voting for it) to his apologies for radical Islamist groups. And then he turns around and talk about liberty. That’s not deciding on portions of a health care bill, that’s a 180 degree turn from complete tyranny, corporatist and slave-holder mentality to screaming about freedom.
If he were sincere about freedom, he’d support the only libertarian candidate still running for President.
I predict that more rumor mongering will mysteriously appear that Ron Paul secretly has all these delegates in the bag, and “don’t stop believing” and “keep sending in your money.” Honest Ron Paul supporters will end up supporting Gary Johnson with or without his blessing. The nuts will still send in their checks. As will the racists like Don Black. That’s okay – a fool and his money is soon parted. Paul will get the gold, but don’t expect the idea train to move out of Paul’s station.
Because the Ron Paul Revolution has always been about Ron Paul, never about Revolution.

Hagel. Right on.
Chuck Hagel’s still got it.
Evolution? Not So Much.
Gary Johnson isn’t falling for it – and nor should anyone. The NYTimes and WaPo were all fooled by his nicey-nice “I love you” dance with Diane Sawyer. But in terms of real policy, Obama isn’t doing ANYTHING. He’s not allowing immigration or social security benefits for gay spouses, he’s not even deferring to the states if they DO approve of gay marriage. New York gay husbands and wives aren’t getting anything. Massachusetts gay husbands and wives aren’t getting anything.
“What is the President saying — that he would eat a piece of cake at a gay wedding if the state the happy couple lives in allows it ?. Where is the leadership? While I commend him for supporting the concept of gay marriage equality, I am profoundly disappointed in the President.”
There’s only one evolved candidate. Yes, it’s important to give personal, moral support to our gay friends, because they are our brothers and sisters, they are citizens of the greatest democracy in the world. It’s time to start treating gay Americans and their husbands and wives like they’re citizens of the world’s greatest democracy..
